The Eindhoven artist Ad Snijders is one of the painters who individually went in search of a new visual language after the Second World War. The expressive power of color is always important in this. In the 1950s he usually paints swirling, dynamic abstract expressionist canvases. This is followed by a period with painted, collage-like figurative scenes. In the 1980s, large shapes and bright colors dominate against a black background. The figuration then continues to play a role in his work. In 2002 Rudi Fuchs organized a retrospective exhibition of Ad Snijders. In 2003 and 2004 he had solo exhibitions at the Van Abbemuseum in Eindhoven.
